Julian Hazell

Julian is a grantmaker on the AI governance and policy team. He joined Coefficient Giving in August 2023 as a program associate, and has since led grant investigations for projects across areas including legal research, technical AI governance, AI safety talent development, AI capability evaluations, and strategic communications. 

Prior to joining Coefficient Giving, Julian was a summer research fellow and research assistant at the Centre for the Governance of AI, and a content & research associate at Giving What We Can. Julian blogs about how the world can better prepare for the arrival of AI systems that are vastly smarter than humans on his Substack, Secret Third Thing. He holds an MS.c. in social science of the internet from the Oxford Internet Institute and a B.A. in economics from McGill University.
